Women Signed as ‘Male Models’ by Top Agency, Brand

The past year saw a first in the fashion industry – women signed contracts to model as men for Ford Models and Saint Laurent.

Casey Legler, a 6’2 artist who lives in New York City, said in an interview with Time.com that she believes she is the only woman to be working exclusively as a male model.

“This is a unique little moment that fashion is allowing to have happen,” Legler said in the article in Time.com.

The story is accompanied by a video interview with Legler, who is sporting men’s clothing and tattoos in the three-minute piece.

Saskia de Brauw was hired last year by fashion designer Hedi Slimane for his 2013 menswear campaign for Saint Laurent.

“When the brand revealed the first images from the campaign online late last week, it noted that there wasn't a makeup artist or hairstylist on set, allowing de Brauw's natural androgyny to shine through in the pictures,” an article on the Fashionologie website wrote about Slimane’s choice of the Dutch model to wear his men’s clothing line.

On the Saint Laurent Facebook page, de Brauw's photo is accompanied by the Nov. 22, 2012 post that reads: “The Saint Laurent Boy is a Girl.”

CNSNews.com contacted Ford Models for a comment on the decision to hire a female as a male mode, but Ford Models refused to comment.  CNS
