Gay Advocates Hurl Feces-Stained Bible Pages at Christians

Gay advocates in Germany reportedly attacked Christian parents with "little bags of feces" and feces-stained pages ripped from the Bible for protesting a new government sex education program in schools that seeks to teach students about homosexuality.

A DW report explains that the protest is part of an ongoing debate over a plan in the state of Baden-Württemberg to include "sexual diversity" in the 2015 school curriculum. The details of that plan are still being hammered out.

A middle school teacher from the Black Forest region in southwest Germany launched a petition which branded the effort as "an educational, moral, and ideological reeducation" in the state's schools.

The petition argues that the educational plan fails to "reflect the negative side effects of an LGBT lifestyle" – citing suicide, drug misuse, HIV and mental illness.

Nearly 200,000 supporters have signed the petition and protests are ongoing against it.

The Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians recently highlighted an incident in which Christian parents protesting the plan were attacked by gay advocates.

"Eyewitnesses told the Observatory: Christian parents were shouted at with obscenities. They were spit at, eggs were thrown and little bags with feces or color. Cables of loud speakers were torn out," noted the Observatory in a statement.

"Pages were ripped out of the bible and used to wipe backsides, then formed into a ball and thrown at the parents. Christians were deeply hurt in this process. At least one banner was snatched from and destroyed in front of the eyes of the parents," it continued. "Marshals were target with pepper sprays. Shouting by counter-demonstrator made the planned public speaking partly impossible.

"Many parents reported to have been shocked at the amount of hatred and at the inactivity of the police, and that their religious feelings were severely hurt," it ended.

Doro Moritz, head of an educational and science union in the state of Baden-Württemberg believes that the new plan is necessary for schools in the state.

"So far, this is a topic that can be touched upon if a teacher feels like it. But since this is a difficult topic for teachers, it hardly ever comes up," he said.

He added that the petition against the plan won't stop it.

"This is a clear attempt to keep the topic of sexual diversity out of the classrooms," he said, arguing that the first draft of the petition branded as discriminatory tried to prey on people's fears.

"It conveyed fears that are not backed up by the working papers at all," said Moritz. He also pointed out that the German Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs is firmly behind the plan and has clarified its intent.

"Information about pluralism in life planning as well as sexual preference is supposed to strengthen the self-esteem of children and teenagers, as well as their appreciation of others, ultimately helping young adults to develop their own personalities," the ministry said in a statement. CP
