TV Stations Accused Of Not Airing Rose Parade Same-Sex Wedding

Supporters of marriage equality are angered and disappointed, claiming local and network TV stations cut away from what was supposed to be the first-ever internationally-televised same-sex wedding. On New Year’s Day at the historic Tournament of Roses Parade, Danny Leclair, 45, and Aubrey Loots, 42, together for 12 years, married atop the AIDS Healthcare Foundation float. Whether or not anyone was able to watch the wedding from home is in dispute.

On Twitter, several viewers accused ABC, NBC, and HGTV of cutting away from the wedding to go to commercial, or switching to football analysis to avoid the couple’s happy day.

But the L.A. Times reports local KTLA-TV Channel 5 news anchor Micah Ohlman said, “Congratulations and our best wishes to Aubrey and Danny on their wedding day!,” as the float passed by.
