The Sign of Jonah

Recently a picture was captured of a large group of starlings flying in the formation of an image of a whale. It is an unmistakable whale image—no doubts and by no stretch of any imagination.

This picture was taken in Israel.

Israel is not unacquainted with news of whale sightings. A few years ago a gray whale appeared near Israel. This is extremely rare; the sighting received lots of attention.

Why are these whale sightings significant? Well, it has to do with something Jesus said.

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from You.”
But He answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.  For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and will condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. And now One greater than Jonah is here. Matthew 12:38-41

Father God’s heart for Israel is that they all be saved as stated by Paul:

Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. Romans 10:1

And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will remove ungodliness from Jacob” Romans 11:26

If these are true signs for Israel, then it also confirms that we are entering the latter days where great prophetic events will rock the world.

Pray for Israel, as Paul did—that they might all be saved through Jesus the Christ.
