The Beast's Mark
He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. Revelation 13:16-18
In the middle of the tribulation, anyone wishing to make any kind of transaction will need to be certified to do so with a mark. With the concept and convenience of a cashless society, the mark will be the communication device that will enable a person to purchase a loaf of bread or sell a car.
Now think about this for a minute. It’s actually a pretty good idea. Think about all the identity theft that is plaguing society. Have you ever had your credit card hacked? Or worse, have you been violated by someone stealing your identity and wiping out your account? They never seem to put money in, but it’s all about taking it out.
The other benefit of tagging people relates to society’s collapse. We see an increase in lawlessness now, but nothing compared to the disruption during the tribulation. Scriptures describing this time lead us to believe that a worldwide economic collapse will ramp up all sorts of self-preservation behavior that might put lives at risk. Tagging people will help monitor and control lawlessness.
Biometrics technology uses specific characteristics of a person to identify and permit them access to whatever is being protected. This goes beyond the familiar use of fingerprints to include iris (eye) scans, DNA, and other unique identifiers. Biometrics is gaining in the field of identity protection:

Whatever the cause for the implementation of the mark, the Bible makes it clear it will happen and no one will have a choice. The Left Behind series of books is a fun read and for the most part quite accurate, but they take liberty in glamourizing the success of those left behind with avoiding the mark. It simply won’t be that easy. “Both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave,” pretty much speaks for everyone left behind to suffer the tribulation.
We now have “signs” showing that the mark of the beast is pretty close in coming—well, at least the technology is available to make it happen now. Imagine filling a shopping cart at Wal-Mart and going right out the door without the need to checkout or pull cash out of your wallet. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is here for that now. Scanners at the door will tally the total items in the cart which are all tagged with RFID chips. Your bank account will be automatically debited from your personal RFID chip so no need to carry money.
The economy is driving this now, and the end of the economic path brings the mark of the beast. “No one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Simple as that.

This technology is not meeting well with some people:

No one yet knows what form the mark will take. Will it be an RFID chip implant, some yet undeveloped manipulation with DNA, an electronic tattoo, or something not yet known? What we do know is that when the beast, the Antichrist, rolls out the command to take the mark, it will spell eternal doom for those who submit to it.
Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” Revelation 14:9-11
