No one’s exactly sure what undermined the pavement at 14th and F streets NW. Officials on Friday said they suspect a botched utility project that diverted stormwater into the ground rather than a sewer may be to blame. But the upshot, The Washington Post’s Mark Berman reports, is that fixing the mess will end up taking nearly two weeks and $2 million to fix. The pit, which appears to have developed over the course of years, is “the most complicated street repair I’ve seen since I’ve been on the job,” said D.C. Water General Manager George S. Hawkins. It will be fixed by Friday, Hawkins and other city officials promise.  WashingtonPost
