Small sinkholes around southwest San Antonio home a mystery

Stacey Rauls-Regino considers herself a surrogate granddaughter to her nearly 90-year-old neighbor, often checking in on her and helping out with some of the yardwork.

She said this week, she and her husband noticed some holes popping up in her neighbor's yard, some deep enough to provide a home to a stray dog and her new litter.

"Last summer, we noticed that it had sunk down a little bit but the holes weren't there," said Rauls-Regino on Monday afternoon. "The holes we just recently noticed."
Her first thoughts went to the sinkholes in Florida.

"We don't know really how big it is," she said. "We just know that two full dogs can fit down there, plus all her babies."

Stacey called 311 Monday morning, but instead of getting help, she stumped them.

"They said, 'No, it's not us.' and I'm like, 'Who do I call?' and they didn't even know who I could call," she said.

That's when she got in touch with Code Compliance, which sent an officer out shortly after getting a call from Rauls-Regino.

"They're just taking pictures today and she's probably going to give me a call back tomorrow to let me know if there's anything that they can do or if we're just going to start filling it in," she said. "We don't know what it tells (about what's) underneath it. Why would it just appear after 40-something years of it being here all of a sudden?"

A city spokesperson said they will begin looking at the evidence Tuesday morning and forward it to the right city agency. KSAT
