Sinkhole Swallows Two Dogs in Columbia, Illinois

Firefighters rescued two dogs who fell in a sinkhole in Columbia, Illinois.  (Photo via The Monroe County Independent)Two dogs are okay after being rescued from the bottom of a 40 foot sinkhole near Columbia, Illinois Wednesday.

According to The Independent, two 100 pound Dobermans fell into the hole while walking with their owner on the Stemler Trail.

One firefighter was lowered into the hole, and then using a harness, rope and pulley system secured to a tree, lifted the dogs out of the hole one at a time. CBS
