EXPERTS have warned horses are increasingly at risk of sex attacks amidst a shock surge in abuse in Switzerland.

At least one of the beasts are being sexually assaulted every three days, as animal rights workers tell of fears there are as many as 10,000 people in the country with a sexual interest in them.

New figures suggest there were a record 1,709 instances of abuse in the country last year, however there are fears many more cases went unreported.

Swiss animal rights organization Tier im Recht carried out the research.

A legal expert with the group Andreas Rüttimann, told reporters told of the surge in interest in horses, saying: “This rate is relatively elevated compared with other types of animals,”

He said that approximately one in ten of all animal abuse cases involving horses relate to unnatural sexual contact, but admitted that figures could be even higher in reality.

Whilst dogs remain the most common animal targeted by Swiss sexual abusers, horses are becoming increasingly popular as part of this worrying new trend.TheSun
