President Barack Obama of the United States is expected to propose the splitting of Jerusalem as part of a return to the 1949 Armistice Lines when he delivers a policy speech on Thursday, according to a Tuesday report by Yediot Achronot. The newspaper says that Obama will reject the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian Authority (PA) state and call for the PA and Israel to resume talks.

On Monday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said an agreement with the PA would include the annexation of blocs of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria, as well as preservation of a united Jerusalem. Sources in the Prime Ministers Office said it was the first time he distinguished between blocs and individual communities and discussed a military presence and not a civilian one along the River Jordan.
