Obama White House Launches Web Portal for Gay Outreach

The Obama administration has launched a web portal as part of an outreach attempt aimed at gay voters.

President Barack Obama and the White House Office of Public Engagement followed up on the president's official proclamation of 2011 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month today with the launch of Winning the Future: President Obama and LGBT Americans, a new landing page at WhiteHouse.gov specifically addressing the Obama Administration's work "to advance Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender equality and strengthen LGBT families and communities."

 The new website features features a blog addressing LGBT issues and compiles video statements made by key personnel in the Obama Administration for Dan Savage's It Gets Better Project, including statements addressed to LGBT youth from President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Scretary of Labor Hilda Solis, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, OPM Director John Berry, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and the White House Staff, with links out to resources for LGBT youth including the Trevor Project suicide hotline 866-4-U-TREVOR (866-488-7386), StopBullying.gov, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), the Matthew Shepard Foundation, and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).
