Mysterious stink wrinkles noses across the Ozarks

KY3:  People have complained about the smell from Springfield to Rolla.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is handling numerous calls about a strong odor across the Ozarks.  Runners complained about the smell early Wednesday morning.

KY3 News has received reports from Springfield, Clever, Republic, Ozark, Lebanon, Willard, Waynesville, St. Robert, Rolla, Neosho and around Fellows Lake north of Springfield to name just a few.  People have described the stench as smelling like "feces" and "rancid milk."

The Springfield Public Works Department is looking into the reports.
