A coalition of more than 50 national and state groups will host its first online conference via Facebook on Dec. 9, to help educate the public.

Experts will discuss the pornography pandemic and its relationship to sex trafficking, its effect on marriages and the need to prosecute hard-core pornography.

The War on Illegal Pornography event will feature Dr. Donna M. Hughes, professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Rhode Island; Dr. Patrick Fagan, senior fellow and director of the Marriage and Religion Research Institute at the Family Research Council; and J. Robert Flores, former administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention at the Department of Justice.

“The trafficking in women and children for sexual exploitation is a global human rights crisis,” Hughes said, “and facilitated by increased tolerance for the sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of women and children.”

Fagan warned that marriages are not immune to this growing crisis.

“Married men who are involved in pornography feel less satisfied … and less emotionally attached to their wives,” Fagan added. “Pornography’s power to undermine individual and social functioning is powerful and deep.”
