Israel Farmers to Grow "Tree Tomatoes"
From Israel National News:
Researchers in Ramat Negev are currently working on an experiment designed to enable commercial growth of tamarillos, or tree tomatoes. Currently tomato trees are usually only found in private gardens. The fruit is usually red or green and tastes similar to a small sweet tomato or passion fruit. They are native to South America.
Dr. Shabtai Cohen a researcher in Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences, says that upon completion of the experiments, tamarillos could be grown commercially for sale in Israel and export to other countries.
