Imminent War

07/04/2010 09:10

I’m not a prophet, and you certainly don’t need one for this—Israel is going to war, and it’s going to be soon. All the signs are there, and all the scripture is there. All of this pushes us that much closer to the blessed rapture and imminent tribulation period—period.

We always have gotten so excited about the war prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39 where a coalition of Islamic countries led by Russia sweeps in to attack a seemingly unwary Israel. This attack has several purposes, but the main and most important is that it brings Israel around to see God as their Father. A revival takes place in Israel as a result of this war, and subsequently the third temple is constructed as the tribulation, the final week of Daniel, takes its place in the prophetic timeline. We’ve always believed this could happen at any time. But it can’t because there is something wrong, something doesn’t fit just right. We all know by now that when God puts things together he calls it good.

There’s a little issue with Ezekiel 38 that just doesn’t fit the situation as it is now. See if you can find it in here in verses 8-11:

After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely. You will ascend, coming like a storm, covering the land like a cloud, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.” ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan: You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’—

Now, if you are just sitting there wondering what I’m talking about, then it’s obvious that you’ve been oblivious to Israeli news over the last several weeks. If you picked out the key words, “and now all of them dwell safely,” a land of unwalled villages,” “who dwell safely,” “dwelling without walls,” and “having neither bars nor gates” then obviously you are not oblivious to what is happing in Israel. The big flotilla incident at the end of May sure showed us that Israel has a strong ‘wall” or protected border with Gaza. They have to because Iran, Syria, and Lebanon love sneaking rockets into Gaza so they can be lobbed over into Israel. That happens at least weekly if not daily. When Israelis are looking for homes, the bomb shelter is an important deciding factor. Even their bus stops are bomb shelters. They are obviously not oblivious to the fact that they do not dwell safely and in peace.

Something has to happen first to get Israel to that place before the Prophet Ezekiel’s words can come to pass. This is where Psalm 83 and Isaiah 17 enter. Israel will go to war and the results will be that Israel will regain Gaza and even broaden its borders further and will become a peaceful and safe nation as described in Ezekiel (read my blog Gaza, the Flotilla, and Bearded Rabbis for more). Syria, Lebanon, and parts of other neighboring countries will feel the smack-down from Israel, but Iran will get it first. Little quiet snippets of news have been trickling out making this imminent war obvious but Iran seems totally oblivious to it. I believe the smack-down on Iran will be so great that it will result in Iran coming out on the other end reinventing itself, possibly even renaming itself—Persia would be a cool name. Believe it or not, even some of the Islamic neighbors, such as Saudi Arabia, are in support of this attack on Iran. Most of Iran’s Arab neighbors just sort of have that raised-eyebrow look when they talk about Iran.

Anyway, Israel is poised to attack with the support of the United States and several other nations, even Arab ones. What I’m hearing is this July, maybe August.

So after Israel has this war that sort of turns into a multinational deal, and after they get bigger and all peaceful like, the Bible indicates that the Ezekiel war could soon follow. Look at this:

“you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword,” another translation has this saying, “you will invade a land that has recovered from war.” That could mean that not a lot of time will pass before the Ezekiel war takes place. Persia will be one of the leading members of the coalition that attacks Israel (Ezekiel 38:5). Obviously Persia is not oblivious to an opportunity for payback.

Bottom line:  Israel is preparing for war which is a fulfillment of scripture. The outcome will be good for Israel; then Russia will lead Persia and a few others to attack Israel fulfilling Ezekiel 38-39.

While Israel prepares for physical war, the church prepares for spiritual war. The outcome will be great for Israel—increased land and safety. The outcome for the church will be great—increased numbers calling on the Lord for salvation. Whatever happens to Israel physically happens spiritually to the church. Now is the time for the church to prepare for a mighty harvest. War is imminent, then the harvest.
