Phoebe Garlick describes her shock at being woken at 4am to find that her horse Harvey had plummeted six feet down a sink hole.

Pheobe Garlick, 24, from Buckland St Mary in Somerset was awoken one night by her horses neighing in the field.

Rushing down to investigate the commotion with a torch in the dark, she couldn't find her horse Harvey.

After searching along the fences for a possible escape route, she found that he had fallen into a six-foot sink hole.

"It was hugely traumatic, as at this point I had no idea what had happened as I saw him struggling, unable to get up and fearing the worst of a broken leg, I called the vet.

"It then became apparent that he must have just fallen straight down as the soil gave way and his four legs were completely immersed in the soil up to his chest, leaving him unable to get out," Ms Garlick said. Telegraph
