Finding a Plan in Syria’s Mess

It’s difficult to find a landing place on Syria. The political experts are all over the place. US President Obama’s original push for striking Syria for its use of chemical warfare on its people met with great opposition, but politically it may have been a brilliant move if it pushed Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad towards offering up those weapons of mass destruction. Russian President Putin is getting the leadership pin for brokering this deal.

But, there are strong voices saying this is a lousy plan too. Many world leaders just don’t know what to do with Syria. Even the rebels say they are using chemicals.

Here are some facts that aren’t out in the popular media.

Al-Assad allowed Christianity to exist without harm in Syria. The US-backed rebels are persecuting Christians.  This is the same pattern that took place in Egypt when the USA chose to back the then rebel Muslim Brotherhood against Egypt’s President Mubarak—now churches are being burned and Christians are scattered in Egypt and Libya.

The USA-backed Syrian rebels practice cannibalism. This can’t be good.

Back in the old Reagan-Thatcher days when the bad guys wore black and the good guys wore white hats, it was easy to pick sides. Today we still have a desire to pick a side, but now it’s hard to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. It’s hard to separate the evil from the good, so we opt to lower our standards for supporting who we determine to be the least bad. Pick a side is our plan. Pick a side.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20

But even in all this mess there is a plan. God is in control. God has it. In the midst of this chaos, look what’s happening—God is moving!

We don’t have to decide who is evil and who isn’t. God has it—He knows. God has the plan.

The Bible clearly prophesies that Syria will be laid waste in its description of the destruction of Damascus, Syria’s capital.  We don’t need to help God out by spiritualizing His prophecies because, as has been proven many times—Biblical prophecies are literally fulfilled.

Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap. Isaiah 17:1

Hamath and Arpad are shamed,
For they have heard bad news.
They are fainthearted;
There is trouble on the sea;
It cannot be quiet.
Damascus has grown feeble;
She turns to flee,
And fear has seized her.
Anguish and sorrows have taken her like a woman in labor.
Why is the city of praise not deserted, the city of My joy?
Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets,
And all the men of war shall be cut off in that day,” says the Lord of hosts.
“I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus,
And it shall consume the palaces of Ben-Hadad.” Jeremiah 49:23-27

So why should Damascus and Syria be laid waste? It’s part of the plan to bring Israel to the condition described in Ezekiel 38 and 39 where Israel is increased in land and fully in peace with no worry for peace and security. This is a place of peace just before the fear of sudden destruction by an Arab coalition army led by Russia.

Putin and Russia are certainly moving into place for the end times, aren’t they?  Many are looking at this and the events in Syria as signs of the end times.
