A French marine who served in Afghanistan with British troops turned into a predatory cannibal within 10 days of leaving the army, prosecutors said yesterday.

Corporal Jeremy Rimbaud, 26, is accused of smashing a 90-year-old man’s head with an iron bar, ripping out part of his heart and skull and eating them with beans.

The soldier claimed he was “acting on messages” in his head, a court in Tarbes, South West France, heard.

Rimbaud was held in custody until his trial next year.  Mirror
