The Bottom Line

Are we getting closer to the day when we stop using cash to pay for things?

A new Bankrate.com poll finds 9 percent of us are already there. They don't regularly carry any cash on a daily basis.

Even those who do walk around with cash don't carry much. The poll found 49 percent of us have $20 or less while 78 percent of us have $50 or less in cash. Only 7 percent of Americans typically have $100 or more in cash on them at any time.

The results were about the same across age groups, income levels and educational attainment. The survey found 86 percent of women carry less than $50 on a daily basis to 70 percent of men. dispatch
