Canadians spy hundreds of UFOs yearly

Canadians report seeing nearly 1,000 unidentified flying objects each year, says the man who catalogs the sightings.

Most can be explained, but some cannot, said Chris Rutkowski, a civilian science writer who has produced the Canadian UFO survey since 1989.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday that documents it obtained under the Access to Information Act indicate the Canadian government isn't doing much in the way of investigating the UFO sightings these days.

In the past, Transport Canada, the Defense Department, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other federal agencies all put forth some effort to track down and investigate UFO sightings. Any information on sightings gets passed along to Rutkowski, who says the frequency of sightings is on the rise across Canada.

Rutkowski said there were 980 sightings reported in Canada in 2011, and although he hasn't finished tabulating 2012's reports he expects the total to be higher.
