Bangladeshi worker swallowed alive by sinkhole

ALOR GAJAH: A worker was buried alive after he slipped into a sinkhole at a heavy vehicle terminal here.

Alamgir Kemal, 25, a Bangladeshi, was working at the terminal in Durian Tunggal here when he was believed to have fallen into the three-metre deep pit under his feet on Thurs­day.

The incident occurred at about 3.50pm while he was working on an underground sewage piping.

A team of firemen who rushed to the scene only managed to discover his body about two hours later.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Mohamad Laham said a post-mortem on the victim at the Alor Gajah hospital found that he died of severe head injuries.

“We will be in touch with the Bangladesh High Com­mission to contact the victim’s family,” Supt Mohamad said when contacted yesterday.  TheStar
