CUPERTINO, California, November 30, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Top American conservative leaders are in an uproar after Apple Inc. yanked an application for the Manhattan Declaration off their iTunes app store.

The app for the extremely popular statement of conservative values, which has been signed by over 475,000 people, was initially rated 4+ by Apple - indicating no objectionable content. But because the app supported pro-life and pro-family values, opponents fumed that it amounted to “hate and division” and demanded that the computer giant pull the item.

A petition launched earlier this month on Change.org read in part: “The Manhattan Declaration application exists to collect signatures on a website which espouses hateful and divisive language, the very kind of language I hope the iTunes Store will not want to help disseminate. ... Apple’s reputation is too important to be associated with this hate filled organization.”

Writing on Change.org, Michael Rogers said: “Supporters of equal rights and the right of women to control their own bodies must stand together and say to Apple: ‘Applications that support hate and division have no place in the iTunes Store.’”

The app included a quiz on traditional values and helped users support pro-life and pro-family causes.

After about 7,700 joined the petition against it, Apple quietly removed the app over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

At the same time, several homosexualist apps, including a “Gay History Project” app and a “Gay Scene Guide,” remain available at Apple’s website.

Apple is known for supporting the homosexualist agenda in the past. For example, the company donated $100,000 to take down Proposition 8, California’s true marriage amendment, in 2008.

The Declaration’s drafters, Chuck Colson, Dr. Robert George, and Dr. Timothy George, said they urged Apple Chairman and CEO Steve Jobs on Monday to restore the application. The Manhattan Declaration Facebook page noted Tuesday afternoon that the leaders continue to await a reply.
