A Glorious High Throne on Earth

As we’ve proposed a few times in the past, the earth has a position of unique significance in its relationship to man.

Man was formed from the dust of the earth. God’s intent for the earth is clearly proclaimed:

And blessed be His glorious name forever! And let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen and Amen. Psalm 72:19

but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD— Numbers 14:21

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14

Through Satan’s intervention resulting in mankind’s long detour off the path, the plan of God is seemingly postponed, but at the end of it all, the earth will be filled with His glory. The earth will be subdued by humanity.

The prophet Jeremiah may have referred to some of this:

A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary. O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. “Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, The fountain of living waters.” Jeremiah 17:12-13

The glorious high throne refers to what God originally established in the Garden of Eden. We all know that Eden is a place of beginnings, but we often miss what it should have become at that time. The original intent of God was delayed, if not derailed, in the fall of man. Notice the instructions God gives man and woman:

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:27-28

They were charged with filling and subduing the earth. There was a plan and a purpose designed by God for humanity.

Movement upon the earth began in Eden. It was from this centered place that humanity, God’s crowning creation, was to hone its skills in Kingdom management and then spread God’s Kingdom all over the earth. It didn’t take long for Satan to enter the picture to thwart this plan.

We often think the war of the ages is between God and Satan. But it’s not. Satan’s war is with God’s creation—mankind. Satan’s mission to assume control of the earth commenced a multi-millennial effort to snatch that authority from humanity.

The war is really between humans and Satan, because humans have what Satan wants, and what he believes he can take. He wants dominion of the earth, a place to call his kingdom in his efforts to be like the most High.

The one difference Satan perhaps didn’t account for, or at least I can’t see where he was aware of it, is the fact that God connected His creation of man to His creation of earth, and they are forever tied together. He formed Adam from the dust of the earth—He literally used the earth, its elements, to form man. The divine inspiration was literal in that God breathed His life into this formation and then we have man, a human who is of the earth but God-breathed and of God’s nature. They are male and female, created in His image.

Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, The fountain of living waters.” Jeremiah 17:13

Those who fail to take the walk of redemption in becoming restored back to God through the path created by Jesus Christ will be written in the earth instead of heaven. The earth is heaped with the burden of sin. The sin nature, the offspring of the original sin, is repeatedly relegated to the earth, and the earth becomes the bearer, the carrier, and container that holds it until the end.

Now the main thing of all of this is God’s glory—His very presence.

I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps. Psalm 87:8-13

God gave the authority to bring peace, God’s breath, to earth through humanity. The earth was to be held in peace by God’s authority given to humanity. God brings to the table mercy and righteousness, and man subdues the earth by mastering it with releasing peace. Out of this synchronized combination springs truth, God’s vestige, and His Glory covers the earth.

Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully with a loud noise. For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth. He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. Psalm 33:1-5

Goodness and Glory are synonymous in the Bible. The earth is full of goodness when it is tethered with praise. When humanity’s praise dissipates, the skill of the earth to maintain its form dissipates. When humanity’s authority to release God’s peace upon the earth is diminished and when the lack of praise inviting His presence to the earth becomes laborious and rare, then the earth naturally reacts. It cries out. The rocks cry out.

But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” Luke 19:40

We’ve been taught that this passage means if we fail to worship God, then stones will take our place to praise and worship Him. Not so. Cry here, kraz, is not really praise, but a sound like a croak; it means “cry aloud.” It is the same word used by the demons when they cried out to Jesus for mercy in Mathew 8:29.
Only humanity is uniquely created to offer the sacrifice of praise that moves the heart of God releasing His Glory. Only humans created in His image, full of and yielded to His Spirit, have the authority to deposit peace.

The reaction of the earth when the tether of praise is removed or when it’s failed is of pain and discomfort. It’s the pain Adam and Eve found in the garden when the glory was removed for their sin. It’s the discomfort Jesus felt preemptively in the garden when He prayed, and the pain He felt on the cross when He cried, “Why have you forsaken me!” When the cover is removed, it’s like having skin ripped from our bodies. It’s definitely noticeable, definitely exposed to the pain of sin and shame.

The sense of shame highlighted by Jeremiah is the result of God’s glory being lifted. After being in His presence and then losing it, there is a heaviness of nakedness. This is what Adam and Eve felt after the act of disobedience. Disobedience brings exposure and eventual decay. After exposure came mortality.
“The earth becomes sin” is representative of Christ becoming sin for us. As Christ was the first born from the dead, the earth will be reborn in its remake showing that sin is dealt with.

The earth is in an accelerated process of mortality. As sin, the very nature and breath of Satan, increases, darkness increases and mortality rapidly manifests as decay. The earth is crumbling. It was predicted. It’s expected. These are signs of the end of the last days.

Praise abates decay. The glory holds the elements in place. Therein is the tension and it seems in the last days the tug of the rope is favoring decay.

Sin and depravity are taking its toll on the earth and the earth can’t withstand it. The earth is reacting, and aching for its redemption from its curse. The dissipation is caused by sin. The earth becomes sin and loses its integrity. The glory departs and the word that put it together doesn’t hold it together any more. It’s time for a rebirth.
