06/16/2015 07:42
Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, was moved three centimeters southwest by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that devastated Nepal in April, Chinese authorities say. But the April 25 quake, which left more than 8,000 people dead, did not affect the height of the 8,848-meter mountain, according...

Mystery: a strange, remarkable earthquake hit Wyoming

06/15/2015 07:23
An earthquake struck Wyoming two years ago that made little sense, scientifically speaking — but experts seem closer to solving the mystery, the BBC reports. Called the Wind River Earthquake, it hit with 4.7 magnitude in an area that rarely sees such seismic power. Hardly surprising, since the...

Earth is now in a seismically active period

05/25/2015 21:57
Following the second major earthquake that hit Nepal on 12 May, some scientists believe we could be seeing a seismically active period that began in 2004 and could end around 2019. However, predicting the quakes more accurately in time and space still remains a task for the future. The magnitude...

Tiny 'Crystal Cushion' Drives Earthquakes

05/19/2015 20:18
Earthquakes are some of the largest-scale and most-destructive events on the planet, involving plates of the Earth's crust hundreds of miles across. But new research shows that the physics of Lilliputians govern this shuddering of giants. Researchers found that both earthquakes that occur...

The number of people killed in Nepal by two major earthquakes has surpassed 8,500, making the disaster the deadliest to hit the Himalayan country on record, as rescuers on Sunday searched for dozens of people still missing in remote villages. A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on April 25,...

40ft deep sinkhole opens up in Oklahoma... and it's still growing

05/13/2015 18:37
A massive sinkhole big enough to swallow a house opened up in Oklahoma overnight. The 40ft-deep hole, which is still growing, appeared near Sayre in Beckham Country just two days after a minor earthquake hit the area. Farmers in the fields near the hole have been forced to call off work because...

Expert sees ‘era of great quakes and eruptions’

05/09/2015 16:24
Mt. Fuji is located only about 25 kilometers from Mt. Hakone. While Mt. Fuji is also an active volcano, will the increased volcanic activity of Mt. Hakone have any effects on Mt. Fuji? “The magma chambers located beneath Mt. Hakone and Mt. Fuji are not connected, so there is no effect on Mt....

Michigan earthquake: 'Big deal' says USGS

05/06/2015 16:52
KALAMAZOO, MI -- In terms of magnitude, the 4.2 earthquake that originated in Kalamazoo County was no big deal: It was one of 18 in the world on May 2 with a magnitude of at least 4.0. But the quake here was noteworthy by two other measures: Where it occurred and the number of people who felt it....

More Fatal Earthquakes to Come, Warn Climate Change Scientists

04/28/2015 20:23
The untold – and terrifying – story behind the earthquake that devastated Nepal last Saturday morning begins with something that sounds quite benign. It’s the ebb and flow of rainwater in the great river deltas of India and Bangladesh, and the pressure that puts on the grinding plates that make up...

Are Earthquakes and Volcano Activity on the Rise?

04/28/2015 20:11
If it seems like earthquakes and erupting volcanoes are happening more frequently, that’s because they are. Looking at global magnitude six (M6) or greater from 1980 to 1989 there was an average of 108.5 earthquakes per year, from 2000 to 2009 the planet averaged 160.9 earthquakes per year: that is...

Earthquakes

We aren't promised to know the exact day or time for when the end will come, but just as we know the signs for seasonal changes, we can "read" certain signs that help us to know that we are entering the season for the rapture of the church, the tribulation, and His return to earth. In Jesus' discourse about the endtimes in Matthew 24, one of those signs are earthquakes. For some of Prophecy Dude's teaching on earthquakes, go to the "Tags" section on the News and Tweets page and click on earthquakes. There you will find a list of blogs that treat that subject.

On this page you will find updated feeds on earthquakes over the previous seven days with magnitudes of 5 and greater. A map feed is also provided to assist with identifying the location of these earthquakes. The picture below illustrates the concentration of earthquakes along fault lines and continental plate borders. Often Volcanoes are associated with tectonic plates especially in areas where they "rub' one another.
